Frunkly LT vs LTX: Which Frunk Table Fits Your Tesla?

The honest model comparison plus a use-case decision framework

Frunkly LT vs LTX: Welcher Frunk-Tisch passt zu deinem Tesla?

You have decided on a frunk table from Frunkly. Good call. Now there is just one question left: Frunkly LT or Frunkly LTX? Both set up in around 10 seconds, both are made in Hamburg, both hold up to 10 kg. The difference comes down to size and to which Tesla model they fit. In this comparison we walk through both tables honestly, show you what actually fits in real life, and at the end you get a clear decision framework by use case.

The short version, if you are in a hurry: Model 3 drivers can only choose the LT, because the LTX fits the Model Y only. If you drive a Model Y you have the choice, and that is what this post is really about.

One thing to set straight: this is not Frunkly versus other brands. Why a permanently mounted frunk table beats a loose folding table in the first place is covered on Why Frunkly. This post is only about choosing between our two models.

Why This Choice Matters

Most people think of the tabletop surface first when picturing a frunk table. Fair enough, but the surface is only half the story. What really matters is the combination of three things: what fits your Tesla, how much space you need day to day, and what you use the table for most often.

A common mistake: "bigger is always better." Not true. The LTX offers more surface, but it only fits the Model Y and it is not the right table for everyone. If you mostly grab a coffee solo at a Supercharger or set up a laptop, the compact LT often serves you better, with less material in the frunk and the same fast setup.

The good news: there is no wrong choice here, only one that fits you better. Let us look at both models.

Frunkly LT Deep Dive: The Compact Choice

The LT is our all-rounder and the obvious starting point for most Tesla drivers. It mounts permanently, folds up and away in around 10 seconds, and needs no tools and no permanent changes to your car.

The work surface measures 70 x 40 cm. That sounds like just a number, but in practice it is exactly the area that fits a camp stove with a cutting board, or a laptop with room for a mouse and a coffee cup next to it. For one person it is more than enough, and it works for a quick breakfast for two as well.

At around 5 kg it is light and barely noticeable in the frunk. The frunk stays usable for cables and small gear even with the LT mounted.

The surface is birch plywood with a protective lacquer. Real wood, robust, easy to clean. The base is 3D-printed ABS plastic, and the hinges and fittings are metal. Like every Frunkly, the LT holds up to 10 kg, evenly distributed.

The big advantage is compatibility. The LT fits both the Model 3 (including the 2025 Highland Long Range and Performance) and the Model Y (including the 2025 Juniper). So if you are unsure, or you might switch cars later, the LT is the flexible choice.

The Frunkly LTX: lower surface 70 x 40 cm plus a fold-out upper surface of 70 x 30 cm.

Frunkly LTX Deep Dive: More Surface for the Model Y

The LTX is for everyone who wants more space and drives a Model Y. It takes the compact LT as its base and adds a second level on top.

Lower surface 70 x 40 cm, plus a fold-out upper surface of 70 x 30 cm. Together that is around 70% more work surface than the LT. You only fold out that second level when you need it, and fold it back in otherwise.

What it is built for: cooking with a camp stove while the cutting board and ingredients get their own space alongside. Breakfast for two with plates, cups and boards without everything stacking up. In short: a small outdoor kitchen.

Materials and setup are identical to the LT - birch plywood with a protective lacquer, ABS base, metal hinges, setup in around 10 seconds, up to 10 kg load capacity. At around 6 kg the LTX is only about a kilo heavier.

The one catch: the LTX fits the Model Y only (including Juniper). The larger build needs the larger frunk of the Model Y. It is deliberately not made for the Model 3, where it could not be sensibly accommodated.

Quick Comparison: LT vs LTX at a Glance

Here are both models side by side. The most important row is compatibility, because for many people it already decides which table is even an option.

The Fastest Decision Aid

Do you drive a Model 3? Then the choice is made: the LT. The LTX does not fit the Model 3. Do you drive a Model Y? Then ask yourself just one thing: do you cook on the road or are you often two people at the table? If yes, the extra surface of the LTX is worth it. If you mostly grab a coffee solo or set up a laptop, the LT is plenty.

Size in Real-World Context: What Actually Fits

Numbers on paper only help so much. What counts is what you actually put down.

On the LT (70 x 40 cm) you have room for:

  • a camp stove with a small cutting board next to it
  • a laptop plus a cup or snack
  • breakfast for one person, and compactly for two
  • maps, a notebook and coffee at the Supercharger

On the LTX (lower plus upper surface) you add:

  • camp stove below, ingredients and cutting board separated above
  • two full place settings side by side for breakfast for two
  • more space for a proper outdoor kitchen
  • storage for dishes and accessories while cooking

The honest point: if you almost always use the table solo, you rarely notice the difference. Only when cooking with several components or sitting two at the table does the LTX second level become a real upgrade.

When cooking on the road, the LTX plays its second level to full effect.

Which Model Fits Your Use Case

Instead of just staring at the spec sheet, the most honest method is to think from the use case. Here are the four most common scenarios.

Camping and overnighting in your Tesla. If you regularly cook outdoors, the LTX in a Model Y is the more comfortable choice, with the stove and ingredients on separate levels. If you drive a Model 3 or only cook occasionally, the LT is perfectly fine. More in the camping table guide.

Road trips. On longer tours what counts most is that the table is always there and stands up fast. Both models do that. If you travel as a pair and often stop for a proper meal, the LTX is more pleasant. Find inspiration in our road trip tips.

Mobile workspace. For laptop work at the roadside or in a park, the LT is enough in almost every case, since a laptop does not need 70 x 70 cm. But if you set up two devices or extra paperwork, the LTX helps. See Tesla as a workspace.

Supercharger stops. Short charging breaks with coffee, a snack or a laptop are the LT home turf. Quick to set up, quick to stow, no surplus footprint. If you regularly use the charging break to cook, reach for the LTX in a Model Y. More in the Supercharger table guide.

Decision Framework in 4 Steps

01

Which Tesla do you drive?

If you drive a Model 3, the decision is made: the LT. The LTX fits the Model Y only. If you drive a Model Y, move on to step 2. Also check compatibility: the 2025+ base/Standard Model 3 and Model Y with the smaller frunk, and the Model 3 built before July 2020, are not compatible.

02

Do you cook on the road?

If you regularly cook with a camp stove and value separate surfaces for the stove and ingredients, that clearly points to the LTX. If you cook rarely or not at all, move on to step 3.

03

Are you often two at the table?

Breakfast or a meal for two is more relaxed on the LTX, because two place settings fit side by side. If you mostly use the table solo, the LT is enough, so move on to step 4.

04

When in doubt, start compact

If none of the points above clearly point to the LTX, take the LT. It is more compact, slightly lighter, and fully covers solo use, laptop work and coffee stops. You can view both models and current prices anytime in the store.

Still Unsure?

If you are still on the fence after the framework, that is completely fine, both tables are solidly built and you cannot go wrong with either. The questions below clear up any last doubts. If something is still on your mind afterwards, just email us at support@frunk.ly and we will reply personally.

Common LT vs LTX Questions

Does the LTX also fit the Model 3?
No. The LTX is made for the Model Y only (including Juniper). The larger build needs the larger frunk of the Model Y. For the Model 3, the LT is the right choice.
How much bigger is the LTX really?
The LTX has the same lower surface as the LT (70 x 40 cm) plus a fold-out upper surface of 70 x 30 cm. Together that is around 70% more work surface. You only fold out the upper level when you need it.
Is the LT too small for camping?
No. A camp stove with a cutting board fits on 70 x 40 cm, and for one person it is more than enough. The LTX is mainly more comfortable when you cook with several components or regularly sit two at the table.
Do both models hold the same load?
Yes. Both hold up to 10 kg, evenly distributed. Do not sit or lean on the table, as it is designed as a work surface, not a seat.
Does installation affect my Tesla warranty?
No. Installation is tool-free, reversible and leaves no permanent changes to the vehicle. The 2-year statutory warranty (Gewährleistung) and the 14-day right of withdrawal apply, and replacement parts are available.
What if I later want the other model after all?
Within 14 days you can use your right of withdrawal. When in doubt, start with the compact LT, since it is the more flexible base and fits both Tesla models. You can see current prices in the store anytime.
